Isaac at 11
Isaac is a unique kid. He would rather read a history or math book than fiction. Military history is still his go to subject, but his favorite book this year is a book called “What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions” it was written by the other of this blog. Isaac read it cover to cover more than once.
Isaac survived his first year in the ALL (Accelerated Learning Lab) class. He had a really excellent teacher and he absolutely loved his class. I was impressed by all the ways his teacher made history come to life. As they were learning about the Civil War, they were divided into Union and Confederates and their tables were named after battles. At the end of the Civil War Unit, they reenacted several of the battles using marshmallow guns. By the end of the school year, Isaac was both looking forward to summer and sad that this school year was coming to an end.
Isaac participated in the knowledge bowl again this year. He was very excited that the topic this year was history. He wanted to be the war expert for his team. His team did exceptionally well and won top honors. Isaac now has two plaques at the school with his name on them.
Isaac finished his first year of tackle football. It was hard, but Isaac enjoyed it and doesn’t want to play any other sport. Isaac still has a lot to learn about football, but he made good improvement this year and his team won their division. He is looking forward to playing football again in the Fall.
Isaac has continued to take piano lessons and is steadily improving his skills.
Isaac has always loved to build things. He wants to be an engineer when he grows up. He likes to open up electronics and try to fix them. He also enjoys building with all types of materials and helping his Dad and Grandpa build.
Despite being in different classes this year, Isaac still considers Evan his best friend. They play together often. Typically they play computer games or Legos, but have started enjoying some console games together as well. One of their favorite activities is to get a group of friends together for a Nerf War.
Isaac finally conquered his fear and learned to ride a bicycle. Once he got the hang of it, it was all he wanted to do. He’d race through breakfast so he had enough time to ride before school and then ride again after school. Although some of the novelty has worn off, he still really enjoys being able to ride around the neighborhood and has been practicing some new tricks on his bike.
Isaac is kind and generous. He always shares with his siblings when he gets a treat and will spend his money on things for his siblings. Thomas loves to be with his big brother.
Isaac completed all of his Webelos assignments and received his Arrow of Light just before his birthday. He has his first Boy Scout meeting on Thursday.
Here is what I wrote about Isaac a year ago.
