Our Valentine’s Day
We had a great Valentine’s day. I actually went to bed early on Sunday night, but woke up at about 3:00 AM with an ache in my back. I went downstairs and noticed a friend request on my phone so I hoped on facebook and found out that my sister’s water had broken during the night and she was in labor! I did get a little more sleep after that.
Charlotte came down the stairs singing about Valentine’s day. We had cupcakes (provided by a neighbor/ward member) with our breakfast then the kids spent some time making valentines before school.
It was rainy and wet as we walked to school, but the girls were thrilled to find puddles to splash in. Nicole loved the puddles so much that I had to use much encouragement to get her to keep moving towards the bus stop. We took our time walking home so that the girls could try out their new boots on every puddle that they saw. When we got to the last puddle, I was able to hop into the house to get my camera and snap a few shots. The girls stomped and splashed until the puddle became thick with mud. Nicole fell on her bottom a few times, but had so much fun that she didn’t want to leave the puddle.
They changed into dry clothes and left their boots at the door. Charlotte dressed in pink from head to toe then requested “something pink or red†to eat. Charlotte loved the whole idea of Valentine’s day. She said that her favorite color was pink and her favorite shape was a heart because of Valentine’s day.
Much of the day passed uneventfully. As it got close to dinner time, I saw that my sister had her baby and was able to talk to her briefly. I told the kids about their new cousin and they were very excited. They danced and sang about their new nephew and even ran out on the front porch to proclaim his birth.
For dinner, I decided to surprise Zach with Subway sandwiches. I ordered them over the phone to be ready at 6:00 and left with the kids at 5:30 to stop at the bank on the way to pick up our dinner. As I got out of the car, my phone dropped and a piece fell of which I was unable to recover. I took my checks to the ATM, but as I was signing into my account, a gust of wind blew the checks down the sidewalk. I chased after them, but when I retrieved them, they were too wet to use in the machine. I had to get in the car and drive around to the drive through which took much longer than it should have. The rain started pouring down heavily as we drove from the bank to Subway. There were no close parking spots so I unbuckled my little ones and we all held onto each other as we splashed through the wet parking lot to the door. I got many looks, and a few chuckles, when I walked in with my small hoard of wet children. By the time I got back to the van, the bottoms of my pants were drenched (I really need my own rain boots) and the water soaked through my shoes to my socks. When we arrived home, Charlotte announced that we had “a sandwich adventure!â€
(This picture has nothing to do with my post, but it was taken at bedtime and I like it so here it is.)
After dinner, we had a family night lesson on apostles. At the end of the lesson, the doorbell rang. The bishop and his wife brought us heart shaped cookies for dessert.
I think today was my favorite valentine’s day ever! I love my family!
Rain boots for puddle splashing were a gift from Aunt Bethani. I was able to find pink cereal for Charlotte at Fred Meyer =).
That last picture of Nicole I thought was funny. I was trying to get her to settle into bed, so I started reading stories to her monkeys instead of her (she was being grouchy and didn’t want a story). It ended up with her reading stories to the monkeys herself, which worked out well. She’s a silly kid.
So, iIm late to respond to this post, but I’m glad that your favorite Valentine’s Day ever happened *because* my son was born. He’s pretty good luck!
