Thursday
On Thursday the kids didn’t have school and Zach had some time off (because he was planning to take them to the Grand Canyon which was closed) so we headed down to some of the State parks. Utah has an amazingly varied landscape.
The first place we went was Fisher’s Tower. It was very rainy, which is odd since we were in the dessert.
The road had huge puddles in it and we didn’t want to risk getting stuck alone in the rainy dessert so we didn’t drive all the way up.Here’s the view from our windshield as we headed back to the main road:Here’s what it usually looks like:Here’s the poor quality picture I took from my windshield so I didn’t have to get out in the mud and rain:We saw lots of extra waterfalls because of all the rain and Zach kept wanting me to take pictures because it was so odd to see this hot dry place be so wet:(I miss that nice camera that I had before the ocean in Oregon swept it away)
Then we went to Dead Horse Point where we got out and walked around:We tried to take some family pictures with the timer on the camera, they didn’t turn out perfectly:
There were big puddles all over the place. At one point Ila asked for help getting around one and as I was helping her, Thomas fell into one. He was soaked from head to toe. I waited till after I rescued him to snap a picture:I love seeing my kids all lined up by age, one day the height differences will change:We cooked lunch there:The next stop was Goblin Valley. It was probably the kid’s favorite because they loved running around and climbing all over the valley.
Thomas had a blast running and climbing all over. He laughed as he ran and kept turning around and waving while telling me good bye.Ila is the only one who didn’t enjoy exploring. She insisted on being carried or held and said that she felt sick. She started throwing up in the middle of the next night, so I guess we were fortunate that she waited till we got home. Here’s a selfie I took of her in my jacket:
